A special weather statement is in effect as significant snowfall is expected overnight Wednesday in the Kapuskasing, Hearst and Smooth Rock Falls area.

Environment Canada has issued the warning saying heavy snowfall is expected overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning, along with heavy winds.

The weather agency reports that showers Wednesday night will turn into freezing rain and eventually snow, which is expected to exceed the amount of 15cm in some areas.
