WSN Working To Improve Safety For Snowmobilers On Logging Roads

New signage warns snowmobilers across Northern Ontario to beware of forest access roads.

Workplace Safety North alongside the Nawiinginokiima Forest Management Corporation is working to proactively avoid accidents this winter on logging roads.

NFMC released a statement saying the agency has adopted a road sign program legislated by the British Columbia government.

NFMC Clerk Dana Bond says this program includes a radio channel to allow truckers to better communicate their location, which will improve the health and safety of truck drivers and members of the public.

WSN Industrial Director Tom Welton says a great effort has been put into identifying snowmobile crossings in active logging areas and their related dangers.

Walton says an average of one person per year is killed in a snowmobile accident along a logging road, therefore improved signs and protocols was a must.

WSN says snowmobile clubs are encouraged to reach out to them for more information regarding their protocols.
