Prostate cancer treatments have undergone some big changes in Northern Ontario.
On Monday Health Sciences North in partnership with Northern Cancer Foundation and Cancer Care Ontario, unveiled new radiation equipment at the Northeast Cancer Centre in Sudbury.
Radiation Oncologist Dr. Ryan Carlson says the TrueBeam radiotherapy system installed has advanced high accuracy imaging, meaning fewer treatments needed per patient.
Carlson says this system will improve their ability to locate a tumour.
He says with more precision tools there will be fewer side effects from treatment as well.
The TrueBeam radiotherapy system, which is the first and only in the northeast, began operating this December.
