The town of Kapuskasing has made an official update to its travel policy regarding municipal expenses.
The update was necessary, according to Mayor Alan Spacek, who says the policy needed to be refreshed and made more flexible.
Spacek says highlights of the updated policy include; making sure taxpayer dollars are used as wisely as possible and reimbursing legitimate expenses for government business.
He says making sure expenses are covered for travel, meals, and hospitality as well as the most practical form of travel is being used, are also major highlights.
Spacek says updating the policy and creating some flexibility allows for less confusion and creates a guideline for staff.
He says they want to allow councillors to have options when traveling for town business.
The updated travel policy will go into effect as of January 1st, 2018.
