OPP Urge Community To Lock It Or Lose It

Police say there is more reason to steal for thieves during the Christmas season as families travel with valuable items and gifts.

Therefore, the OPP James Bay Detachment is alerting the Kapuskasing community to lock it or lose it, referring to the need to lock your vehicles and homes at all times during the holidays.

Media Officer Stephanie Belec says it only takes a few seconds for a theft to occur even in your own driveway.

Police ask that any loose items such as jewellery or electronic devices be removed from your vehicle whenever it will remain parked for a long period of time.

Belec says other ways to prevent theft are to; park your vehicle in a well-lit area, always keep all windows closed on the vehicle and engrave your name into expensive accessories so they will be hard to dispose of.

The OPP is also asking that if you see any suspicious activity within your neighbourhood that you report it to your local police.
