DSB ONE Presentation Highlights Declining Enrolment

District School Board Ontario North East says enrolment is declining.

At town council Monday DSB ONE delivered a summary of the past year for the board.

Board Chairman Doug Shearer talked about the ministry’s efforts to strengthen the Community Planning and Partnership Program for all municipalities involved with the board.

He also says that a reduction in absenteeism has taken place from 25 per cent in 2016 to 17 per cent in 2017, yet still there is a decline in student enrolment throughout the board.

Mayor Alan Spacek says its clear enrolment is declining across most school boards, and there has not been much willingness for boards to cooperate amongst one another.

Spacek says the government needs to step in and guide the process.

Currently, DSB ONE has a new strategic plan that is in the early stages of development.
