The Ontario Northland Transportation Commission will be increasing bus service within the Northeast.

An announcement made this past Friday in Thunder Bay from Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca explains how Ontario will improve transportation services within and between communities in the North by investing $5.2 million into the ONTC.

Del Duca says these improvements will provide links between communities to help Northerners travel to medical and personal appointments, attend school and even visit friends and family.

The plan laid out Friday says return service will be offered five days a week between all communities serviced by ONTC or private carriers.

Another announcement Friday also sees the launch of a new Community Transportation Grant Program to help municipalities and Indigenous communities without travel options provide that exactly.

Del Duca says the program will make it much easier for students, seniors, people with disabilities and much more to access services within their communities and travel to other towns and cities.

Through the grant, up to $30 million over five years is available for each municipality to apply for.
