Tory MPP Has No Luck In Learning How NOHFC To Recover Partial Grant

The MPP for Parry Sound Muskoka hasn’t been able to find out how the government will get money back from a U. S. company that is walking away from two Northern Ontario wood pellet manufacturing plants.  Norm Miller says Rentech of California got $4 million from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation in 2015 for its operations in Wawa and Atikokan.   But the Wawa plant is now closed and the Atikokan site is for sale and the NOHFC is trying to recover $2.5 million.  Instead of answering the question, Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault talked about the Heritage Fund’s accomplishments since the Liberals took power in 2003.   Thibeault indicated that over that time, the NOHFC has pumped $1.2 billion in the north and created more than 32,000 jobs  Thibeault then listed specific sectors that the NOHFC has funded including the mining, forestry and film industries.
