NOSDA Welcomes National Housing Strategy, Questions Impact On Northern Ontario

The federal government announced its National Housing Strategy Wednesday and then Northern Ontario Service Deliverers Association welcomes it with open arms.

NOSDA released a statement Thursday detailing their excitement at the announcement and the federal governments return to funding social housing.

NOSDA CAO Lead Fern Dominelli says an additional 100,000 units across the country and the renovations of 300,000 other existing units are more than welcome.

Dominelli says NOSDA is very pleased that the federal government is back at the table, however, the impact on Northern Ontario is yet to be seen.

Dominelli says at this point the allocation of units for Ontario is unknown, and that will be a key factor.

He also points out that within the strategy the introduction of a portable housing benefit will not be until 2020, which is a setback for low income families.
