NDP Block Move To End Strike, Talks To Continue Over Weekend

The NDP blocked legislation Thursday that would have allowed Ontario college students back into the classroom.

NDP MPP for Timmins-James Bay and House Leader Gilles Bisson spoke to media following the decision Thursday night saying his party has never supported back-to-work type legislation.

Bisson says the government is only helping continue the increase in part-time workers, something the NDP will not stand for.

He says in the end, the government can pass the legislation if they choose, but the NDP are only fighting for what’s best for the faculty and students.

Premier Kathleen Wynne says students should be back in class by next Thursday, but if the legislation gets NDP support today, the kids could go back to school as early as Monday.

If the NDP hold up the legislation today, Wynne says it could be between Tuesday and Thursday before classes resume.
