Cochrane Mayor Says SAR Guide Is Not A Game

There should be no games when it comes to the well-being of northerners.

That’s according to Cochrane Mayor Peter Politis, who responded to comments from the Sudbury Star on October 28th regarding issues with Northern Ontario’s forest sustainability.

Politis disagreed with the comments, pointing out that Canada has 40 per cent of the world’s environmentally sustainable forests.

However, despite this, Politis says during the last decade alone over 60 mills have been closed and thousands of northern families have been forced to leave the area.

He says the Endangered Species Act is being thrust onto Northerners by the province, only adding 169 more species to deal with on top of the devastating impacts of the Caribou plan.

Politis says as of this time the MNRF is forcing policies on the north that will see more families move away due to job loss.
