NewsGrade 12 Cochrane Student Represents First Nation Community In Ottawa SHARE ON: Nick Birnie, contributor, Monday, Nov. 6th, 2017 Photo Credit: DSB ONEThe issues of Cochrane First Nation youth were heard in Ottawa this past week.During a trip to the nation’s capital Nishnawbe Aski Nation Youth Council members and youth representatives from across the NAN territory met with members of parliament, Senators and even the Prime Minister.Vice President of District School Board Ontario North East Valerie Dumoulin wrote in a statement that Lauryn Edwards, an Ecole Secondaire Cochrane High School Grade 12 student, represented her community of Taykwa Tagamou Nation as a delegate to the forum.Dumoulin says that Edwards was able to use the forum to express issues she felt were important to her own life as an Indigenous youth.She says Edwards was able to be a part of discussions that focused on how to create solutions to these issues.Dumoulin says overall this was a terrific experience for Edwards.Photo Credit: DSB ONEPhoto Credit: DSB ONEPhoto Credit: DSB ONE
