OPSEU Rep Says Current College Strike Could Extend School Year

If the current Ontario College strike is not put to an end, there is a chance students could see their school years extended.

The strike is now well into its second week, and according to OPSEU Local 673 President David Fasciano, a settlement could still be reached soon enough that the impact is lessened on the students.

Fasciano, representing faculty at College Boreal, also says that if the strike drags on for another few weeks, colleges will then have to find a way to make up for lost time.

He says there’s a definite possibility the year could be extended, but that is out of OPSEU’s hands.

President of College Boreal Daniel Giroux says they are looking at all the available options to make sure students do not lose their semester and their academic years.
