An Ontario political party is advocating for further independence and control for Northerners.

A Northern Ontario Party press release Thursday stated that they want Queens Park to begin the development of two new ministries to be operated and controlled by Northerners.

NOP Leader Trevor Holliday says the creation of a Northern Ministry of Natural Resources and Northern Ministry of Fish and Wildlife are necessities.

Holliday says MNRF Minister McGarry is very knowledgeable when it comes to health care, but she does not have the experience necessary to best manage Northern wildlife.

He says over the past few years the Moose and Rabbit populations of the area have seen a dramatic drop, and the MNRF has chosen to blame climate change and the environment, rather than investigate further.

Holliday also says the ministries would be operated by Northerners as they are the most qualified to handle the resources.
