Council Wants Minister Of Finance To Extend Discussion On Tax Cuts For Small Business

Kapuskasing would like the Minister of Finance to take a further look into how proposed tax changes will affect small businesses.

At town council Monday, councillors agreed unanimously to support the Municipality of East Ferris in their request for an extended discussion period on the proposed changes.

Chair of Finance Dave Plourde says small business is the largest employer in the country, so supporting the request was a no-brainer.

Plourde says the proposed legislation would close loopholes that benefit small businesses.

The cut to the small business tax rate was officially announced Monday as going from 10.5 per cent to 10 per cent by January 1st of 2018 and nine per cent by 2019.
