Sears Hometown Store No More, Part of Canada Wide Shutdown
There will no longer be a Sears Hometown store in Kapuskasing.
Sears Canada made the announcement Tuesday it will be closing all 130 remaining stores, and if they receive court approval, will begin liquidating the stores as early as October 19th.
Owner of Sears Hometown Store in Kapuskasing Chris Rody says his business will no longer be up and running, meaning he and his three-man staff will all be without jobs once the process is complete.
Rody says to his knowledge, the company over a nationwide conference call yesterday stated that beginning Friday, October 13th they will go to court to try and gain approval to begin the liquidating process.
Overall Sears Canada will close 130 stores, putting the retailer completely out of business and about 12,000 employees out of work.
If the liquidating process is approved, beginning Thursday, October 19th Sears will begin a roughly 6-week complete shutdown.
