Three Northern Ontario schools are on a list of hundreds of institutions which have failed lead tests across the province.
These institutions include St. Patrick School in Kapuskasing at 10 parts per billion in June of 2016 and Ecole Catholique Georges-Vanier in Smooth Rock Falls at 11.1 PPB back in May of 2016 says a Toronto Star report published last Friday.
The Ontario Ministry of Health’s website says a test exceeding 10 parts per billion is not healthy, which is a cause for some concern.
Conseil Scolaire Catholique De District Des Grand Rivieres Director of Education Lorraine Presley says the failed tests are most definitely a concern, enough so that they will look into what needs to be done to correct the matter.
The Ontario Ministry of Health’s website does state that lead levels can greatly fluctuate depending upon how recently the lines have been flushed.
The Ontario government also released a statement stating 98 per cent of test samples from schools and day-cares in 2016 met the province’s overall standard for drinking water.
