As Thanksgiving weekend approaches members of the OPP James Bay Detachment will be participating in a national safety initiative.
Police will be part of the four-day initiative titled Operation Impact which will take place over the course of the Thanksgiving Long Weekend around Kapuskasing.
Officers will be paying particular attention to four main categories of behaviour for drivers; driving while impaired, aggressive driving, driving without a seatbelt and distracted driving.
Police say traditionally long weekends are the deadliest on OPP-patrolled highways, waterways, and trails, so they ask that motorists take steps to arrive alive such as drive sober and obey the speed limits.
Operation Impact will take place from October 6th through 9th, and motorists are reminded to contact their local police if they suspect someone is driving under the influence.
