The thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women across Canada are in need of your help and respect.

That is according to Cultural Resource Coordinator at the Kapuskasing Indian Friendship Centre Lucy Longpeter, who says the centre will hold its first-ever Sisters in Spirit Vigil taking place Wednesday.

Longpeter says the event got its start thanks to the National Women’s Association of Canada and their investigations into the many missing Indigenous women across the country.

She says holding an event like this is important to pay respect and also strengthen the community.

The Sisters in Spirit Vigil takes place Wednesday starting at 6:30pm at the Civic Centre.
