Northern MPP Pushes For Another Statutory Holiday Province Wide

A Northern Ontario MPP is trying to turn National Indigenous Day into a statutory holiday in Ontario.

Mike Mantha, the New Democrat for Algoma Manitoulin, has introduced a Private Members Bill to that effect.

The Bill has the support of Warren “Smokey” Thomas, the president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.

National Indigenous Day is celebrated on June 21st and currently, only the Northwest Territories and Yukon recognize it as stat holiday.
