Steps Being Taken Regarding DSSAB Funding Formula Changes, But Not Fast Enough Says Mayor

Steps are being made in the right direction, but the pace needs to pick up.

That is according to Kapuskasing Mayor Alan Spacek in regards to the current review being done on proposed DSSAB changes for the Cochrane District.

Spacek, along with his fellow municipality leaders met in Ottawa with Minister Helena Jaczek in early August and were able to convince her to take a more detailed look at the proposed changes for the coming year.

He says since their last meeting the Minister has returned to them with a request to proceed with a process of mediation.

Spacek says as municipalities begin to finalize their budgets, they can’t be dealing with a state of limbo regarding the current funding model.

He says an agreement has been reached to participate in mediation as long as the process is completed within the next 30 days.
