The town of Hearst is leaving the Northeastern Ontario Municipal Association.
According to Hearst Mayor and NEOMA Vice-President Roger Sigouin, a lack of unity in decision-making is what has led to their decision to part ways with the group.
The MNRF already has determined that a wide area north of Highway 11 should be off-limits to forestry.
Sigouin says due to a lack of unified decision-making from the group regarding the future of forestry, he will step down from his role as Vice-President.

He says at this time he is hopeful that fellow municipalities like Kapuskasing and Cochrane will follow suit.
Sigouin says moving forward with this issue; Hearst will take its lead from the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities.
