Two OPP Officers Plead Guilty To Assault Charges

Two members of the OPP’s James Bay detachment have pleaded guilty on charges of assault.

The charges were stemming from an incident back on May 18th, 2016 on Riverside Drive in Kapuskasing.

Both officers were sentenced in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing this Friday.

OPP Constable Kenny Belanger, who worked out of the Kapuskasing detachment, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a weapon.

Meanwhile, OPP Acting Sergeant Daniel Lafontaine, who worked out of the South Porcupine detachment pleaded guilty to two counts of assault.

Both sentences will run simultaneously, and the future of both officers’ careers will wait to be decided at a hearing with the Ontario Provincial Police Professional Standards Bureau.
