Northern Highway Program Recieves Financial Boost

About $630 million is being invested into the 2017-2018 Northern Highways Program.

The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines is investing the funds to help with highway rehabilitation and expansion.

The Cochrane region is receiving $10.2 million to resurface a 19 kilometre stretch of Highway 11 just south of the town.

Highway 144 north of Gogama will be resurfaced at a cost of just over $3 million dollars and Highway 129 just south of the Highway 101 junction near Chapleau will be resurfaced costing $8.6 million.

The ministry says the provincial government is prioritizing the four lane major corridors near Sudbury and Thunder Bay.

Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle says upgrading the highways will help businesses ship their products easier as well as make travel between communities safer.
