Council Supporting Municipality of Killarney With Respect To Bill 68

Kapuskasing is giving its support to a fellow municipality in regards to Bill 68.

The town decided at council to approve support for the Municipality of Killarney in their request to the provincial government to reconsider their proposed change to tax registration proceedings.

Chair of Finance Dave Plourde says Bill 68 is one which attempts to modernize Ontario’s current legislation act by bringing change to the tax registration system.

Plourde says the bill means tax payments out of court are now going directly to the government, rather than back to the municipality.

He says municipalities like Kapuskasing do the work of collecting on behalf of the province, so the money should go back to the community.

Bill 68 came into effect back on June 1st of this year.
