Porcupine Health Promote Brand Removal On Cigarette Packages During World Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day took place around the world, and Kapuskasing played a role as well.

The Porcupine Health Unit used the Wednesday’s event to gather support for a federal legislation on Wednesday which involves Plain and Standardized Packaging for all tobacco products.

Public Health Nurse Valerie Genier says legislation changes involve the removal of branding from packaging and only allows the printing of brand names in the same size as the health warnings.

Genier says the removal of branding on cigarette packages is to help stop people from smoking.

World No Tobacco Day has taken place annually on May 31st for 30 years in a row, since starting back in 1988.
