The NDP were shut down by the Wynne Liberals and Conservatives over a proposed rent-hike protection Thursday.
The proposal was to protect Ontarians from unfair and unreasonable rent hikes according to Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson.
Bisson says the reason for the proposal is the current laws afford landlords the opportunity to raise rent as they see fit.
Bisson says at the very least they want the Liberals’ upcoming legislation to be retroactive, so landlords do not have free will over raising rent.
The Liberals’ have not changed rent control legislation for landlords during their 14 years of power since the Conservatives first cancelled rent control in 1997.
