Hughes Says Federal Budget Fails Northern Ontarians in Numerous Ways

Canadians and Northern Ontarians have been failed by the new Liberal budget presented Wednesday according to Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes.

Hughes says Northern Ontarians who have struggled for employment and with household debt will be extremely disappointed with the budget.

Hughes says the budget failed in many different forms, whether its jobs, healthcare or services for Indigenous people.

She also says albeit the $11 billion to be invested in housing over the next 11 years is a positive, most of that money is heavily delayed and 90% of the funding won’t be spent until after the next federal election.

Hughes also says there is no positive investment in healthcare for Northern Ontarians, as nothing was done to lower pharmaceutical costs.

The next federal election will be on or before October 21st of 2019.
