OPP: March is Fraud Prevention Month

The OPP and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre are launching their 13th annual Fraud Prevention Month campaign for March.

Detective Constable Ted Schendera of the OPP Anti-Rackets Branch says the focus of the campaign is educating communities on how to handle possible scammers who cost Canadians an estimated $290 million between 2014 and 2016.

Schendera says there are many different ways through social media that people can gain helpful tips as well as resources to deal with possible fraudsters.

He also says the campaign’s goal is to further educate communities on how to better prepare and deal with possible future scams.
