Colon Cancer Awareness Month: Male Screening Rates a Concern

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and the Porcupine Health Unit is encouraging people to get screened, with a specific focus on adult males.

Porcupine Health Unit Public Health Nurse Joanne Bennett says the focus is due to Cancer Care Ontario’s recorded screening rates for males.

Bennett says Porcupine Health Unit plans to further educate adult males through attending community sporting events, as that is the targeted demographic.

Bennett says the key is trying to make people further aware of the importance of being tested.

She also says more information on how to get screened for colon cancer can be found under www.coloncancer.ca/colon.
