This month has been named Colon Cancer Awareness month and the Porcupine Health Unit is recognizing it.

Public Health Nurse Valerie Genier says the health unit has partnered with Cancer Care Ontario to run an awareness campaign.

Genier says the test analyzes if blood is found in a stool sample.

She also says the campaign encourages people to get screened with a take-home test.

Genier says when caught early, nine out of 10 people can be cured.

The tests can be picked up at your healthcare provider or by calling Telehealth Ontario.
