The Direct Funding Program is growing thanks to $5-million the Ministry of Health. The program, offered through the Disability Resource Centre For Independent Living in Kapuskasing, helps those with illnesses and disabilities stay at home, but still have a say in their care.
Individuals using the program become the employers of their attendants and must be able to hire and train people to help them. The program serves the districts of Cochrane, Temiskaming, Algoma and Manitoulin. The funding will be used to help bring the wait time to join the program to under a year.
