The Canadian government has announced a softwood lumber taskforce.
The Federal–Provincial Task Force on Softwood Lumber will share information and analysis to understand potential impacts and assess how to address the needs of affected workers and communities.
The government says the forest sector is vital to a strong Canadian economy and enhanced collaboration between federal and provincial governments will help keep it strong and resilient.
The government has sought to negotiate a new softwood lumber deal with the United States over the last two years. It says the taskforce is part of its strategic approach to that issue.
