Snowmobilers urged to stop taking risks

Six recent deaths have prompted a warning from the OPP and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs. They’re urging snowmobilers to stop taking unnecessary risks.

So far there have been 13 snowmobile fatalities this winter compared to eight last year. That includes an incident last week when an 11-year-old girl was killed when she collided with a transport truck on Highway 11 south of Iroquois Falls.

The OPP says investigators are linking the deaths to things like riding on unsafe ice, speeding, alcohol and other poor decisions.
