Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli supports any measure that makes education more accessible. But the Tory MPP says the latest program from the Wynne Liberals to provide free education to low income families hurts other students. In the program, if parents earn a combined total of up to $50,000, then their child’s post-secondary education is free. But Fedeli says that so-called free education comes at a cost. He says students who make more than $50,000 won’t qualify. Fedeli also questions how many students from low income families from rural or Northern Ontario can really go to college or university. He says if they live in a small town, they’ll have to move to the where the post-secondary school is and that means incurring living costs something the Liberal’s free education doesn’t cover.
