Trial dates set in Sudbury mine fatals

Trial dates are now in place for a mining incident that killed two miners at the First Nickel Mine in Sudbury in May, 2014.  Testimony will be heard over three days in early April and then two more days on May 1st and 2nd.  The victims were contractors and died in a fall of ground.  After their deaths, the contracting firm was sold to an Alberta company.  First Nickel itself also went bankrupt because of falling nickel prices.  The Ministry of Labour charged both companies with various offenses under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.  First Nickel is still answerable to the charges and the new contractor inherited the original charges.
