NewsSuperstack in Sudbury to be torn down SHARE ON: Rocco Frangione, contributor, Tuesday, Jan. 24th, 2017It’s been part of the Sudbury landscape for nearly 50 years and now it’s coming down. Vale plans to demolish the former Inco Superstack and replace it with two smaller and more efficient chimneys. Superstack will come out of service during 2020 and construction on the smaller chimneys begins this year. Superstack is Canada’s largest chimney at 1,250 feet. Both of its successors will be 450 feet high. Vale says Superstack is no longer needed because its Sudbury operation doesn’t spew as much emissions as it once did. Superstack is Canada’s largest chimney and went into operation in 1972.
