Group continues to oppose nuclear waste burial option

Ontario Power Generation’s ongoing drive to bury nuclear waste near Lake Huron is drawing a lot of opposition.  OPG’s preferred burial site is at the Bruce Power Generating Station near Kincardine.  Low and intermediate level radioactive waste would be stored in a chamber about 2,230 feet deep.  OPG says there’s virtually no chance of the waste escaping and reaching the lake which is less than a mile away.  But the group, Stop the Nuclear Dump, isn’t convinced.  Spokeswoman Beverly Fernandez says burying radioactive waste close to the Great Lakes which is the drinking water source for 40-million people will always be a bad idea.
