Remi Ski Club Toonie Drive Coming Up

The Remi Ski Club is having their annual toonie drive this weekend.

Operations Manager Norm Nadeau says even though it’s called a toonie drive every little bit helps. He says the toonie drive is the biggest fundraiser the ski club does each year and it will be taking place this coming Saturday starting at 10:00am.

Money raised during the annual toonie drive goes towards operation costs at the Remi Ski Hill. Nadeau says the ski hill caters mostly kids under 12, so when you donate you’re not only supporting the local ski hill, you’re helping out the youth.

This year the ski club is hoping to get fat bikes which are essentially mountain bikes that can ride on the snow. Nadeau says they already offer ski, snowboard and snowshoe rentals and the new bikes will hopefully attract more people to the hill.

The Remi Ski Hill has been in operation since the late 60’s and the toonie drive has been taking place for the past 10-years. Nadeau says last year they brought in just over $5,000 and are hoping for another big turn out this year. Stop locations for the tonnie drive will on Riverside Drive by the park and Cooper Equipment over by the arena and Lambert Dental.

The ski hill is set to open on Boxing Day and Nadeau says you can also rent the facility for family reunions or private events.
