Police are Reminding Residents to Stay Off the Ice

Northeastern police units want to remind residents to stay off the ice. Although it might be getting colder, the ice isn’t thick or strong enough to support outdoor activities. The strongest ice is clear or blue and it has to be at least four inches thick to walk on, five inches for snowmobiles or eight for light vehicles.

The OPP says heavy snowfalls can insulate the ice slowing down the freezing process. It’s important to avoid slushy ice or ice near moving water.

Snowmobilers are being asked to check the OFSC’s website for the most up to date trail conditions.
