Moose FM is Raising Money for the United Way

The goal is a million dollars. Vista Radio is looking to raise a million dollars for all the local communities they serve across the country and so far over $300,000 has been raised.

The annual Moose FM radiothon is on today and for 12 hours we will be collecting donations for the United Way. Jennifer Gorman the Regional Resource Development Co-Coordinator for the Cochrane-Temiskiming United Way says all the money that’s raised stays within the community. Gorman says local organizations can apply for some of the money donated as long as they can prove they have a benefit to the community they serve.

The Cochrane-Temiskaming United Way provides many different services to local communities from Temiskaming Shores to Hearst and up the James Bay Coast. Gorman says some of the key focus areas they have include moving people out of poverty, helping with employment, education, giving kids the guidance they need to move into healthy adulthood and ultimately building stronger communities.

Gorman says next year will be the 50th year the United Way has been around in the Northeast and each year they look to have an even greater impact. The goal for the Temiskaming-Cochrane United Way is to raise $450,000 dollars this year and hopefully have Kapuskasing contribute $9,000.

To help give back to the community this holiday season, Moose FM is teaming up with the united way for our annual radiothon. For each $100 a local business donates they will be entered in for a chance to win a $500 advertising package.

From 6:00am until 6:00pm feel free to stop by the station or give us a call and donate what you can. The United Way accepts cash, cheques or donations by credit card.
