Math Results for Grade 6 Students Declining

This year’s Report Card on Ontario’s elementary schools showed most school boards had a decrease in math scores.

Only one school in Northern Ontario made the top 25 list for grade six EQAO results in math. R.L. Beattie in Sudbury was the number one school when it came to these results. Those numbers in comparison to the public and Catholic school boards in the Northeast looked high considering only one in three students in our region are meeting the provincial standards for math.

The same study conducted by the Fraser Institute also showed public schools perform better in math than Catholic schools. On that top 25 list, 15 were public schools, six were independent and only four were Catholic.
