Stats Canada Shows Pot Infractions Declining Across Country

As the country moves less than a year away from the legalization of marijuana, Stats Canada says pot infractions are on the decline.

The official data from Stats Canada suggests that across the country in each and every province there has been a decline in the number of marijuana related charges involving possession from previous years.

Stats Canada’s report reads there roughly 55,000 offences related to marijuana reported to police in 2016, about 6,000 fewer than reported the year before.

Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says this is a direct result of officers using common sense.

Bisson says the impending legalization of marijuana is a major factor in that.

The deadline for the legalization of marijuana in Canada is July of 2018.
