Kapuskasing Getting Nearly $500,000 From Gas Tax Fund

Some of the gasoline taxes you pay are coming back.

It was announced Friday by the federal government that Kapuskasing will be receiving $498, 369, Cochrane $324, 706 and Iroquois Falls $279,405 through Ontario’s Gas Tax Fund.

Ontario Municipal Affairs Minister Bill Mauro said in a news release the gas tax is a long-term infrastructure fund that is given to municipalities each year.

He says that the GTF benefits these municipalities by allowing them to choose where and how to invest resources.

Mauro says the GTF also supports hundreds of local infrastructure projects across the province as well as maintaining rural roads in Northern Ontario.

The funding will be available to these municipalities in order to support infrastructure projects for each community going forward.
